Built atop a massive Kopje or rocky outcrop,
on the northern edge of the Serengeti National Park, this
simple but comfortable lodge overlooks the Lobo valley and
has a privileged view over a water hole that attracts thirsty
animals throughout the day; at night the hole is lit and predators
such as lion, leopard, and hyena can be seen in the proximities.
The views of the Lobo valley from the terrace and swimming
pool are something special: endless plains, acacia woodlands,
and peaceful grazing herbivores, from elephants and buffalo
to wildebeest and topi.
The lodge, built in 1969 and pretty much
unchanged since then, offers accommodation in 74 standard
rooms and 1 suite, all with panoramic views onto the plains
of the Lobo Valley and en-suite bathrooms. Rooms are simple
and unassuming but clean and comfortable.
The kropje is well integrated with the public
areas, creating a natural ambiance for guests to admire and
baboons, rock hyrax's and lizards to wander around. There
is one bar open daily in the main lounge area and a restaurant
providing buffet and a-la-carte dinners, depending on occupancy.
