Located outside the Masai Mara National Reserve,
at the foot of the Aitong Hills, this safari Camp occupies
a bend of the Mara river, right next to a resident population
of hippos. Each one of the 50 tents, set amongst nice gardens
with indigenous vegetation, has a veranda overlooking the
river. Ten of the tents are premium, having a sunken bath
in the bathroom.
The Mara Safari Club offers three standard
daily game drives, included in the price: early morning (6.30am
to 8.30am), mid-morning (10.30am to 12.30pm), and afternoon
(3.30pm to 6.00pm). Additionally, there is a full day excursion
for the stamina-plenty travellers, lasting from 8.00am to
5.00pm. The drives are conducted by experienced guides, while
the camp's resident naturalist is in charge of the birding
walks in the surroundings, as well as the 2-hour morning walks
(though here accompanied by an armed guard and 2 Maasai warriors
in complete lion-frightening outfits). Balloon safaris and
fishing trips to Lake Victoria are also offered.
The camp has a nice swimming pool and
a restaurant that serves European, African and Asian dishes.
Maasai dances, cultural talks, and slide shows are presented,
alternating every 3rd day, in the lounge from 7.30pm.
